Why is PDF File Opening in Acrobat Reader but Flipping Back to Browser?

This is an annoying problem you may see with the Netscape browser.  When you click a hyperlink on a web page to open a PDF file, your browser launches the Acrobat Reader in a new window, loads the PDF file, but you are 'flipped' back to the browser window.  The Internet Explorer browser will launch the Acrobat Reader in a new window, load the PDF file, and at least remain at the Reader window for you to browse the PDF file.

A simple one-time setting change in Acrobat Reader to turn on 'Web Browser Integration' will eliminate this problem.  And, gives the benefit of opening the PDF file for viewing right in your current browser window!  No 'flipping' between windows.  No extra window to close when you are done viewing the PDF file.  You'll be able to just click the Back button on your browser to return to the previous web page.  To make the setting change do the following:

  1. Start the Adobe Acrobat Reader program.
  2. Select the Preferences/General... menu choice from the File drop-down menu in Reader.  The General Preferences dialog box displays.
  3. On the General Preferences dialog box, check (turn on) the Web Browser Integration option located near the bottom of the dialog box.  Click OK to save the General Preferences settings.
  4. Close the Acrobat Reader program.
  5. Shut down and restart your web browser for the new settings to take effect.
